This broke our hearts.

Abandoning an animal is a heartbreaking decision in itself – but if you must, then at least have the decency to take them to a shelter or a safe place. We can never understand how someone can leave their family pet out on the streets without any concern for their welfare.

Dogs are incredibly loyal animals, and in turn, they deserve to be rewarded with loyalty from their owners.

We really don’t deserve dogs! Their love for their humans knows no bounds. It doesn’t matter what you look like, what you smell like, or how many followers you have on Instagram – a dog will love you for you.

Dogs deserve to be treated like the absolute angels they are, but sadly, there are some people in the world who really shouldn’t be allowed to own a pet.

People decide that they no longer want a pet anymore for multiple different reasons. Maybe they are struggling for money. Maybe they have a new baby who the dog doesn’t get along with. Or maybe they simply don’t have the time in the day anymore to look after an animal.

But whatever the reason, there is absolutely no excuse for leaving a helpless animal out on the streets.

In Tulsa, Oklahoma, a video captures clear evidence of a heartless owner doing just that. The man drives down an empty road in his truck before making a sudden stop. He then opens the door and lets out his dog.

The sweet boy probably thought he was going on a walk, but when his owner got back in the truck and drove off without him, he became confused.

Maybe his owner had forgotten something and had driven back to get it? Maybe he had accidentally left the dog outside and would soon return?

All the dog could do was wait. And wait. And wait.

The hopeful dog sat for over nine hours on the dusty road. He just couldn’t comprehend that his owner wasn’t coming back.

Thankfully, a stranger saw what was going on, and immediately went to help the dog.

The camera had captured everything that had happened, so it didn’t take rescuers long to find the dog. After hours by himself on the road, he was incredibly excited to see another human!

A check up at the vets showed that luckily, he was absolutely fine.

One reason that people can sometimes abandon their pets is because of illnesses that they can’t afford to treat- but this dog was in top health.

Since the dog had been abandoned, rescuers knew nothing about him. They decided to name him Rocket, after his lively personality, and began to look into why he might have been abandoned.

In the end, they theorized that the man who abandoned him could have been struggling because of COVID-19.

These are some tough times we’re living in – and while it’s perfectly understandable to be going through money struggles, abandoning your pet is never the right thing to do. Oklahoma Alliance for Animals said:

“While we understand that people may be struggling to care for their pets due to COVID, there are resources and organizations here to help, including us. Doing this to a living, feeling being should never be the answer.”

Thanks to the video footage, the dog’s rescuers soon tracked down the man. The situation is currently under investigation, but all that matters is that Rocket is safe and sound.

“We will ensure he is vetted and has a full belly and a safe warm place to rest his head,” the rescue said. “We will ensure he never suffers this fate again.”

We’re so glad that Rocket is now in safe hands. Abandoning your pet at the side of the road is never the answer.
