If, like us, you’ve never heard of the Capybara before, then you’re in for a treat. It turns out these little guys are actually the world’s largest rodents – but don’t let that put you off! Capybaras are some of the friendliest wild animals and are actually said to make excellent pets (though they’re not always legal to keep, so we’re not recommending anything!)

What’s more, these furry rodents are absolutely adorable, and this next video that we stumbled across helps to prove our point. In Brazil, one pedestrian was able to capture a whole family of Capybaras on camera as they waited to cross a busy road.

It’s an absolutely amazing sight to see and we had to share it with you all!

The video was filmed in Cuiabá, Brazil, and it was posted onto Facebook by José Francisco Salomé Figueira. The post immediately went viral with 1.2 million views, over 31k shares and 10k likes, and it’s not hard to see why because it’s absolutely adorable! The clip, which was shared on June 11, 2020, shows the family of street-smart Capybaras patiently waiting at the side of the road until it is safe to pass.

There have to be over fifteen of these creatures, and alongside the adults there are lots of babies!

The family is grouped together and seem to be nonplussed by the busy road and the people all around them. Their mission is simply to cross the road, and they’re not going to let any distractions get in the way.

As the cars eventually stop to allow the pedestrians to cross, the group of Capybaras collectively begins to walk across the crossing toward the safety of a wooded area on the other side. We couldn’t even imagine what it would be like to see such a thing in front of our own eyes!

The woman holding the camera laughs in what seems to be disbelief as the Capybaras begin to cross the road, so we can imagine that even in Brazil these things don’t just happen every day.

We have to say, we’re pretty impressed with how street-smart these animals are. It’s amazing that they knew that if they waited at the side of the crossing, then the cars would eventually stop to let them cross! We bet it was a brilliant sight for those waiting in their cars to see as well – we know it would have certainly cheered up our morning commute to work.

We loved seeing this video of the safety-conscious Capybaras, and it reminds us that there’s a lot more to the world than just what’s on our doorsteps. What’s the most interesting animal you’ve seen crossing a road before? Let us know in the comments! And be sure to check out the awesome video of the Capybaras over on Facebook.
