Lonely dog escapes his yard every day and runs toward his best friend
I couldn't stop smiling when they tried to "hug" each other!

Audi and Messy are two peas in a pod. They are best friends, even if they never had a chance to actually meet one another. The two dogs live across the street from one another in Thailand, but only get to stare across the road when they have the chance.

While Audi’s owner is gone from home (often for hours at a time), the little dog is lonely.

So when Messy’s owner, Oranit Kittragul, noticed that the dogs were interested in one another but Audi seemed lonely, she would let Audi out into the fenced-in yard so the dogs could at least communicate with one another.

“When [Audi] feels lonely and cries, I always ask my dog to see and talk to him,” Oranit told The Dodo back in 2017. “My dog just looks from my fence and sometime he barks to [Audi]. I don’t know what they are communicating, but he stops crying.”

The two dogs went viral after a few incredibly cute photos were taken during their reunion.

When Audi’s owner forgot to close the gate ack in 2017, the fluffy husky escaped.

As you can imagine, he wasn’t lost! He knew exactly where he was heading.

Audi made a beeline for his friend’s house across the street. When given his freedom, he just wanted to go say hello to his friend.

“He ran to my dog and they hugged each other,” Oranit said.

The woman also took some photos of the tender moment that melted hearts.

And yes, dogs really do make attempts to “hug” – and they do it to both humans and to one another.

There are few things cuter than dogs hugging.

It’s not always best for humans to hug back since that can make them feel smothered, but accepting a hug from a dog is certainly on our list of things we enjoy most!

Despite the photo being taken way back in February 2017, it still gets international attention. The story will occasionally pop up and spur even larger news publications to pick the story up!

Kittragul told TODAY she was surprised the photos made the impression they did.

“My purpose is just to share a nice photo and story,” she said.

Messy doesn’t seem to care a lick that he is now famous. “Totally unimpressed” is how we would put it!

“He’s an animal, I don’t think he will respond to this spotlight,” Oranit joked.

Luckily, the owners of both dogs appeared to be amenable to the friendship and were making plans for the dogs to be able to play together more often.

The two humans made plans to let the friends play, but never got around to it (as humans do).

But Oranit did take Audi for some walks by the house so they two could sniff at each other a little more closely.

“Not yet,” Kittragul said of the potential playdates. “But sometimes I bring Messy to visit Audi in front of Audi’s house.”

Even with a fence, yard, and street separating the two, their friendship flourished! We are sure that they are close friends who get to hang out now (as long as their humans made an actual playdate)!

While it’s one of many stories that remain unfinished, we’ll choose our own happy ending and assume these two became BFFs and in-person playmates.
