Facing the challenges in life is what makes us stronger! If we never face a challenge, we never have the opportunity to be better. For humans, these challenges are all too familiar. A new house, having a baby, and taking care of your aging parents are all challenges that most humans will have to face at one point or another.
Puppies, on the other hand, have a different set of challenges!
Here is a theory. Humans love to adopt puppies and give them all the love in the world. Watching a puppy get older is a unique experience all on its own! Maybe, just maybe, watching a puppy go through little struggles and challenges is an innocent reminder to us humans that all our problems and difficulties are relative. That might be one of the reasons we love to watch puppies try and learn things!
Of all the puppy challenges, few are as imposing as the first flight of stairs.
Puppies tackling a set of stairs for the first time is quite a hilarious sight. Eventually, they all get it, but in the meantime, it’s so funny to watch. The plight of puppies scared to walk down stairs has a simple reason: lack of experience. Spruce Pets says:
The majority of dogs who are afraid of stairs develop the fear because of a lack of early exposure. If you live in a single story home, it’s possible that your dog won’t see stairs until a little later in life. You may even discourage your puppy from going on the stairs to keep him contained to a single room.
It seems the similarities between human problems and dogs continue!
Puppies are afraid to go down stairs primarily because they aren’t used to the experience. In other words, the fear of the unknown stops the pups from taking a step, even if that step is in the direction they want to go! Who said dogs and humans are all that different?
Despite seeing ourselves in struggling pups, it’s still fun to see.
In Manitoba, Winnipeg, one little golden lab found out the secret to overcoming all problems, even stairs! The pup was a recent rescue and probably had minimal experience with stairs like this, especially slippery wooden ones.
After a few attempts, it looks like the little dog has all but given up.
Right when you think the pup will never make it down the stairs, help arrives! His older brother is there and ready to show him how to conquer the issue. Walking up to the top, he uses himself as an example. Soon, the little dog builds up the courage and drops his first two feet over.
With the first plunge of his two feet, his brother encourages him one more time.
Finally, the pup takes his first full step! With cheers from his owners and snuggles from his brother, the little dog has officially learned how to walk down stairs! Once again, however, we see the similarities to humans.
When we have problems, our relationships usually contain the answer we need.
The little dog needed help, and his friend and brother was there to help. When we are struggling, sometimes we just need our friends and family to help us along.
