For a shelter animal, the day of adoption has to be one of the biggest days of their lives. They’re having a second chance at life, another chance to have a cozy home and a loving owner and a nice big bowl full of food. Though nerve-wracking, starting a new life with a brand new family is incredibly exciting- so when the day comes that they are finally going to be adopted, staff at the shelter go all out to make sure it’s a special one.
For a puppy in Colombia, his big day involved him being decked out in the most adorable looking tuxedo.
Looking dapper and ready for his big day, the puppy waited in anticipation for his new owners to arrive- but they never did. Luckily, just three days later the sweet puppy was adopted by another family- and this time he was able to take his adorable little tux home with him!
Vincente the puppy had been rescued by Fundación Rescátame in La Calera, Colombia, and was eagerly awaiting his new home. It wasn’t long at all before a family expressed their interest in him, and with the adoption papers all signed, it looked like he was finally about to get his happy ending. But on the day of the adoption, the family never turned up, leaving poor Vincente waiting patiently in his tux for nothing.
Fundación Rescátame shared some heartbreaking pictures of the pup in his tuxedo waiting for his new owners, along with some wise words:
“Vicente’s alleged adopter never came for him. When he was ready for a home, bathed, he cancelled his adoption. Then they ask us why we’re so strict with the process, for this reason! Because we don’t want to have any doubt that our furry ones will be in excellent hands for LIFE.
If you want to adopt, keep in mind that it’s a commitment forever, animals are not things you can dispose of when you miss the desire to have a dog.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. We’re incredibly glad that this family decided to back out before collecting Vincente, instead of taking him home and then realizing that they weren’t fit to be dog parents. And by doing so, Vincente was finally able to be matched with a loving family who wouldn’t have any second thoughts about having him as a permanent addition to their lives.
In fact, it was only three days later when Vincente was taken home- this time for good. After the shelter posted the pictures of Vincente onto their Facebook account, the post began to do the rounds on social media. Before long, it had been shared over 3000 times and the shelter was inundated with requests to adopt the sweet pup.

A few days later, Fundación Rescátame shared a pupdate showing a picture of Vincente happily cozied up with his new owners as he was about to leave the shelter for good. The organization wrote,
“Thank you to all the interested people, we never thought your story would go this far
We want to tell you that Vicente has already been adopted by a beautiful family. We still have over 40 furry ones at the foundation waiting for a home“
“How amazing! We’re so glad that Vincente finally got to go home to be with the loving family that he so deserved.
