Most people who have dogs are excellent pet owners. They shower their furry friends with love and affection and usually, spoil them rotten. After all, pups are unconditional in everything they do. As long as they’re cared for, they’ll go to the ends of the earth for their humans.

Sadly, this world consists of evil people. Those individuals don’t take proper care of their dogs. They abuse, neglect, and even throw them out like garbage. Unfortunately, stories about these types of incidents are all too common.

Just a warning…the story you’re about to read is beyond sad. But it does have a happy ending.

Good-hearted rescuers

Whether innocent passersby or non-profit rescue organizations, some dogs get the break they desperately need. Those people take pups out of horrible situations, have them treated by a veterinarian, and then find them loving, forever homes.

A story from Brazil

While out and about one day in Botucatu, São Paulo, a man by the name of Palhinha Rodrigo happened upon a sight that was disturbing and heartbreaking. Inside of a dumpster, a dog had been thrown out like trash. Just looking in the pup’s eyes, he could tell she was scared and in incredible pain.

Old and sick

Lying there among bags of garbage was a terrier type pup. Just looking at the gray on her face, Palhinha knew she was older. But even worse, she appeared to be quite ill. As a dog lover and advocate, he began filming everything from the moment he found the poor thing.

Heading to the vet

Palhinha slowly and gently lifted this girl out of the dumpster. He then headed immediately to have her seen by a veterinarian at the Municipal Kennel. On the way, he named her Florzinha, which in Portuguese, translates to “Little Flower.”

A checkup and bath

After a quick checkup, the workers at the clinic gave Florzinha a much-needed bath. With that complete, they provided her with medication to ease the pain followed by performing a more thorough exam. That’s when they discovered she had a tumor inside her stomach.

She received excellent care

The entire staff at the Municipal Kennel were determined to give this pup superior care. One vet stated, “We will not give up.” She needed surgery to have the tumor from her stomach removed before she could be placed up for adoption. The good news…everything went extremely well.

An important message

Palhinha posted a powerful message on his Facebook page. He encouraged people to send prayers and positive energy to Florzinha rather than wasting time and effort on being angry at whoever dumped her. He explained that the person or persons responsible don’t deserve any attention. And he’s 100 percent right.

Frequent updates

Florzinha’s rescuer provided regular updates on how she was doing. He explained that along with the tumor in her stomach, the vet found smaller tumors in several mammary glands. As a result, she might need additional surgery to have the entire mammary chain removed.

Follow-up post

The last update was a shout-out to Petland Botucatu where this pup was receiving treatment. He also thanked all the people who cared enough to help with the cost of food and medicine. Then, he shared that this pup discovered hot baths and car rides are pretty awesome.

A shocked community

As Florzinha’s story got out, the community was outraged. Considering that in the United States alone some 6.5 million animals go into shelters with only about 50 percent getting adopted, this dog was very fortunate.
