Once a woman earned the trust of a feral cat, she got the honor of meeting the whole furry family.

A woman names Lisianne first met a stray feline in the summer of 2020. There was a stray cat colony near her home in Québec, Canada, so a wandering cat was no surprise.

But this cat caught her eye and she soon set out a bowl of food and water for the beautiful black cat one she saw that it seemed hungry. Lisianne named the cat Usagi.

Forging a bond

Lisianne continued to set out food and water for Usagi and the cat developed a schedule, showing up at her door each day around the same time.

As time went on, Usagi developed more and more trust for the woman who was feeding her on a regular basis.

But stray cats in a colony have their own lives, so Lisianne never tried to take Usagi in.

However, one day she noticed that the cat was growing a belly – and it wasn’t because of the extra feedings. Usagi was pregnant.

Meet the family

According to the Quebecois rescue group Chatons Orphelins Montréal, Usagi gave birth outside, but she continued to come get her meal every day.

Lisianne hadn’t met the babies, who were stashed away while mom got her nourishment.

But on one warm day, Usagi wandered into the house while the doors were open and allowed Lisianne to bestow some affection on her. And that appeared to seal the deal – this woman could be trusted.

So she brought the babies onto the porch one by one until all SIX of them were standing there, staring at the human behind the glass.

At just 6 weeks old, it seemed clear that they needed some help and that their mom had brought them to Lisianne because she knew the woman could be trusted.

Saving the sextuplets

Lisianne managed to get mom and babies into her home to keep them safe while she contacted the local rescue group, Chatons Orphelins Montréal.

Usagi set up a little nest for her babies inside until they could be rescued.

When it came time to hand over the family, Lisianne decided to keep Usagi.

The non-black kitten went to live with one of her friends.

So, the remaining 5 – who now go by the names Tito, Taylor, Tynie, Tyana, and Tales – went to the vet for medical care and were placed in a foster home.

Just look at these adorable little squirmy kittens!

It seems Usagi knew her cats were in need of assistance – the kittens were suffering from conjunctivitis and breathing difficulties.

Luckily, veterinary care turned their health around for the better as they got more socialized.

The kittens eventually came out of their shells, becoming playful little balls of fur.

At around three months old, they were put up for adoption, but the rescue had many cats and it appears that the kittens are still available.

Tales and Taylor, for example, would prefer to be adopted together.

It’s been a few months now and these sweet kittens are ready for their fur-ever homes.

The rescue does not have a physical structure, so all cats are with foster families until they are adopted.

Their adoption is not a first-come, first-served matter, however. According to the rescue:

“We choose the best environment according to the cat’s needs, to approach the perfect match for him. We are looking for a match between the behavior of the cat and the family environment.”

So be prepared for an interview if you’re interested in adopting!
