The excitement of buying a new home is one that can hardly be described. The realization that you own this thing in front of you is uplifting and sometimes a bit scary. Part of the fun with buying a new home is learning all of the character that it has. One woman discovered that her house had its own “living” character!

Finding out the character of a home comes with time.

Exploring the attic, looking through rooms, and smelling the “house smell” of a new home is all a part of the experience. It is exciting to find out the personality that a new home has. Giselle Lyons had just started that process with her new home! She had just purchased the house and was about to begin moving in when something… unique happened.

Since Giselle was only moving 20 minutes down the road, she took some time with the moving process.

Moving can be SUCH a hassle. The boxes and packing and more boxes and more packing all wear on you (and your back)! On one particular trip to her home, she decided she was going to load some boxes into the garage to take care of later. As she stepped in, she found something waiting for her in the garage.

A cat decided that the home was now hers as well!

Giselle was shocked when she saw the cat! Who knew that the home came with its own pet?

“I just bought a house,” Lyons wrote in a post on Facebook. “It apparently came with a cat. No one told me. I don’t even have a sofa yet, but I have a pet?”

Thankfully, Giselle worked for a rescue organization so she wasn’t out of her comfort zone.

For many, a scene like this could be strange and scary, promoting a call to the nearest animal control center. Who knows what would have happened then! Giselle worked at a local rescue, however, and knew just what to do.

She was resigned to take the cat if she stayed.

Deciding that if the cat lived there, she was going to keep it, Giselle waited to see if she was a passing visitor or resident. After unpacking some more of her things, the cat would stick around and watch her.

Giselle started leaving food and water out for the friendly feline, wondering how she would respond.

The response was positive! The cat got more and more comfortable with the new woman moving into her home. Giselle still isn’t moved in totally but the relationship keeps growing.

A plan in place, Giselle knows what her next steps are for her new friend.

Deciding she would keep her (cat allowing), Giselle plans to keep providing food and water for her! She is still moving in so only time will tell of the cat will stick around.

“If I move in and she is still around, I will take her in for a health check and decide from there,” Lyons told The Dodo. “I work with a local rescue organization so I’d put her through our normal vetting procedures before adopting her if I did.”

It seems like “adoption” may have worked in reverse this time around.

People on Facebook are falling in love with the stray kitty. Some are even referring to her as a feline squatter!
